Maryam Nawaz farmers relief

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a comprehensive relief package aimed at supporting farmers amid rising fuel costs and economic pressure.

In an official statement, she said the government is committed to protecting the agricultural sector by providing targeted financial assistance. Under the new initiative, farmers cultivating up to 25 acres of wheat will receive direct financial aid, ensuring that support reaches small and medium-scale growers who are most vulnerable to rising expenses.

A key component of the package includes a diesel subsidy designed to ease production costs. Farmers will be provided with a subsidy of Rs150 per litre for up to 10 litres of diesel per acre. This measure is expected to reduce the financial burden associated with irrigation, transportation, and machinery use.

Maryam Nawaz noted that global increases in oil prices have significantly impacted fuel rates in Pakistan, making farming operations more expensive. She acknowledged the challenges faced by the agricultural community and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to standing by farmers during difficult times.

The chief minister also emphasized transparency in the distribution process, stating that she is personally overseeing the implementation of the subsidy programme. She stressed that strict monitoring mechanisms are being put in place to ensure that funds are delivered efficiently and directly to eligible farmers without delays or misuse.

Highlighting the importance of agriculture to the provincial economy, she described farmers as the backbone of Punjab’s development. She added that the government will continue to introduce policies that safeguard their livelihoods and promote sustainable growth in the sector.

The relief package is part of broader efforts to stabilise the economy and support key industries affected by rising global costs.
